No Second Rate Qualifications
We will ensure the difference in the education systems between Wales and the rest of the UK does not give Wales a second rate qualification. This can only be done by raising the quality of education in schools to the same standard as the rest of the UK with the following:
- Funding Increased
- Maintenance Funding
- Regulate the national body “Qualifications Wales”
Should two teaching candidates be identical in application, knowing Welsh should be a deciding factor as it will be used in classrooms. For existing teachers, incentives to learn Welsh should be provided, such as time off work, appropriate support and a pay uplift similar to other skills like being a first aider.
Welsh should be placed at the same priority as other Languages taught in schools and not be seen as something one can opt-out of early on.
